SS02

Description

SS02 is a select collector Trichocereus cutting from our Southern California collection, cut to order and shipped grower-direct. This cryptic-named clone is valued for its clean columnar form and ornamental presence, a great pickup for serious San Pedro and Trichocereus collectors building out a specimen lineup. As a Cut to Order item, it is cut from the mother plant after you order, then dried and callused here on the farm for about two weeks before it ships. Care: bright light, fast-draining cactus mix, and sparing water once rooted.

The story behind SS02

Numbered clone names like SS02 usually come out of somebody's selection notes rather than out of folklore. A grower works through a batch, marks the individuals worth keeping, and whatever got written on the label that afternoon is the name the plant carries forever. We do not have a documented origin story to attach to this one and we are not going to manufacture one. What stands behind it is our own mother stock, grown outdoors in full sun year round, and that is where every cutting sold under this name is taken from.

That matters more than it sounds. A clone raised soft under shade cloth photographs beautifully and then sulks through its first real summer in the ground. Ours have already taken the heat, the winter cold snaps and the occasional insect visit, so the marks you see on a stem are healed history rather than an active problem you are inheriting. SS02 is sold under collector convention, since the number is what the community uses and not a botanical rank, and we would rather you buy it for how it grows than for a pedigree nobody can verify. It moves quickly when it is cut, so the drop list is how regulars catch the next round.
